This will vary based on state, if the employees have beneficiaries (spouse and kids who are under the plan), and a few other factors.

I have a small business. I paid $4200 for health insurance for myself and my family in 2010 (premium only)?

I also paid about $1000 for medicine, office visits, and emergency room. Am I only allowed to deduct the PREMIUM or can I also deduct the other $1000?
On your sch C, you can deduct the premium (it's a deduction, not a tax credit).
If you itemize and if your other medical expenses are over 7.5% of your AGI, you could deduct them.
- I'm guessing the $1000 does not qualify.

Can my employer deduct health insurance premiums?
Mar 25, 2011 by ComeAndSee | Posted in Insurance
Here's the scoop. I work for a small business of about 8 people and my boss currently (willingly) pays 100% of peoples health insurance. Recently he told us that each persons monthly premium got bumped up $80 so he's basically pocketing out an extra $640
It is legal as long as everyone falls under the same rule. No one gets a better break over the other.
